Underpinning SOMPO’s Purpose, “For a future of health, wellbeing and financial protection” is the passion and effort of every employee. We want to empower everyone to take on challenges that showcase individuality and to align to the company’s vision their respective purpose in life, expressed as “My Purpose.” We encourage them to continually reflect on their aims, to embrace challenge, to take even small steps to realizing the aspirations of self and company, while acknowledging and supporting each other’s efforts. It is to this end that we launched the SOMPO Awards in fiscal year 2022.
Commitment rooted in personal aspirations
The SOMPO Awards focus on more than just results. By recognizing ideas and initiatives rooted in each employee’s “My Purpose” and in SOMPO’s Purpose, the awards celebrate the spirit of tackling challenges proactively and taking the next step to fulfilling our purpose. The awards’ concept, “Our Purpose begins with you,” reflects this commitment to cheer on every challenge, regardless of outcome.
On its second year, SOMPO Awards 2024 began with nominations from employees within each group company, followed by entrant screenings and interviews. Employees all over the group then voted on initiatives that resonated most with them, after which a Grand Prize winner was chosen for each of the three categories. We also had a number of group-wide events to encourage cross-company sharing of challenges and aspirations. These events also became another place where employees could simply cheer on one another’s efforts.

This category recognizes employees who strive to establish a workplace and company culture that encourage colleagues to pursue aspirations of the company and their own.
With stronger connections, heading for the next challenge
By reflecting on our efforts and learning from others, we deepen our bonds and grow as One Sompo. SOMPO Awards 2024 recognized achievements from specific group companies but at the same time strengthened cross-company connections and contributed to the realization of our purpose. Even through an internal awards project, I think we were able to learn more about one another’s aspirations and how these have motivated each one to take on challenges. I hope the SOMPO Awards continue to be an important opportunity to strengthen the connection among colleagues in the group.
