Our new challenge: Collaborating with AI

Since January this year, Sompo Group has deployed an agentic AI, “SOMPO AI Agent,” to approximately 30,000 employees across group companies in Japan, including all 22,000 employees at Sompo Japan. The objective goes beyond mere operational efficiency. Our aim is to position AI as a partner that empowers each employee to maximize their capabilities.

While the world often discusses division of labor between AI and humans, we aspire to collaborate. We believe in creating new value by adding unique human experience and sensibility to the foundation laid by AI.

The key to mastering AI: Passion for customers

Simply introducing AI will not lead to differentiation from competitors. While AI can instantly derive optimal solutions from vast amounts of knowledge, the results tend to be same, no matter who uses it.

What’s crucial is to imbue those AI-generated answers with Sompo Group and Sompo Japan’s purpose, and above all, our deep passion for our customers. We believe it is only then that we can create truly unique value that resonates with people.

The real aim: Empowering our people

We view the implementation of SOMPO AI Agent not as an investment in AI itself, but as an investment in our people.

The impact we measure isn’t merely the number of hours saved in operations. It’s about how many individuals have grown to master AI, delivering high-quality output with speed and efficiency.

Our goal is for all employees regardless of job and title to embrace using AI as a natural part of their work, evolving into professionals who can generate many times the value they did before. This is the future we envision and the true aim of this investment.

What truly matters: Leveraging time created by AI

AI enables us to create significantly more time than ever before. We want our employees to utilize this freed-up time to translate their passion and dedication to our customers into tangible actions.

While we confidently accept assistance from AI with tasks like document creation, summarization, and data analysis, it is ultimately up to us humans to truly empathize with customers and respond with genuine care.

However, the vision of where we are headed and what we aim to accomplish can only be conceived by us humans. By enabling each employee to master AI and face challenges with the unique passion that only we possess, we aspire to be a company that consistently meets customer expectations and achieves sustainable growth.
