How to help people have a positive outlook on aging
This video explains the role SOMPO Wellbeing plays as one of the business segments of the Sompo Group. It also explores the vision we are pursuing.
The Sompo Group’s founding business is non-life insurance or what we more commonly refer to as property and casualty (P&C) insurance, and the wellbeing business is our next pillar of growth. Our company, with 130 years of history in the insurance field, is pursuing the wellbeing business because we believe there are societal needs we can address by leveraging our strengths.
In Japan, we are facing what we call the “three concerns” arising from a low birthrate amid a rapidly aging population: health, caregiving, and post-retirement finances. Unlike sudden accidents, these represent new risks of the 21st century that are now advancing quietly but surely.
At SOMPO Wellbeing, we aspire to be a partner who accompanies people over the long term, finding solutions and to these new 21st century risks.
The interview also introduces the initiatives of Sompo Wellbeing Inc., a new company established in October 2025 to embody the Sompo Group’s strengths and commitment to wellbeing.
What matters is connecting what customers need right now and expanding on what we can provide, without being confined by the boundaries of a standalone business. It’s not just about solving problems and turning “negatives” into “zeros” as in traditional insurance, but proactively creating “positives” throughout people’s lives now as a wellbeing business. I encourage you to watch the video and see a bit more about the growth strategy we envision.
