We are entering an era where technology is evolving at an unprecedented pace. We see a future where anyone, regardless of technical expertise, can naturally leverage the power of AI.

As a company providing insurance and nursing care services, what we at the Sompo Group must value above all when using technology at work is maintaining a “human perspective.” We must constantly ask, “Who are we helping? What challenges are we addressing? How can we deliver health, wellbeing, and financial protection?”

AI is now widely used in the front lines of insurance and nursing care.

AI demonstrates its true worth only when it is applied with a deep understanding of the needs of our people on the ground directly working for our customers’ security and wellbeing. A concrete step toward realizing this vision is the “SOMPO AI Agent,” a tool we are currently rolling out to our group companies in Japan.

Putting AI in the hands of the front line

The true value of AI lies dormant on the front lines. But only until our employees, who interact with customers and face operational challenges daily, are able to identify areas for improvement and opportunities for innovation.

While the Sompo Group continues to automate specialized tasks with AI, we are also promoting “citizen development,” an initiative that empowers frontline employees to develop and utilize AI agents themselves. By enabling development on a group-wide scale, we have entered a phase that is advanced even compared to other corporations in Japan.

Recently, we held a group-wide ideathon focused on AI utilization. The collaborative event sparked a wave of new, AI-driven business ideas, further unleashing the creativity of our people.

We have established a comprehensive support system, from strategy to implementation, to maximize our ability to solve these frontline challenges with AI. This approach aligns with the global trend where AI is shifting from being a tool for a few experts to a driver of value creation originating from the front lines.

This 2026, we aim to transform our business operations with an AI-first mindset, driven by the citizen development of autonomous AI agents. By bringing frontline ideas to life with AI agents and reducing routine tasks, we empower our employees to focus more deeply on tasks that are “inherently human and valuable,” the work of connecting with each customer as a genuine partner.

Fostering the courage to challenge and transform

The most crucial element in driving this company-wide transformation is fostering a culture and environment where employees feel secure to take on the challenge of utilizing AI. By establishing our AI Basic Policy, providing training for employees, and developing the infrastructure, we are cultivating an AI-positive culture and promoting practical initiatives that allow for rapid hypothesis testing and implementation of frontline ideas.

This enables us to steadily evolve from just experimenting with AI to actually implementing it as a fundamental part of doing business. Our goal is to create higher-quality services and deeper trust that go beyond mere efficiency gains.
