The world of mobility is changing rapidly. As technology advances, so do our expectations for how we get around. Traditional business models are no longer enough to meet these new demands. Here is a look into the strategy and vision for the next-generation mobility business.

New challenges in the mobility sector

We are at a pivotal moment where technological progress and societal challenges are evolving side-by-side. While innovations like autonomous driving and ride-sharing are becoming the standard, we also face growing issues like driver shortages and “transportation deserts” or areas with limited access to public transport, particularly affecting rural and aging communities.

This new landscape requires more than just incremental improvements. It demands a fundamental change in how we provide value as an insurance company.

Shifting expectations for insurance

Historically, auto insurance was a simple contract between an insurer and an individual driver. With the rise of new mobility services, this is changing. In many cases, the primary policyholders are shifting from individuals to corporations like automakers and service providers.

In this new era, the role of an insurance company must expand beyond simply providing compensation after an accident. We are now expected to offer comprehensive solutions that include accident prevention, risk assessment, and data-driven insights. To meet these needs, we launched SOMPO MobineX in Japan.
